Adjunct Lecturer - School of Engineering and Technology

REF: SEKU/ADV/AC/1/11/2022 

Duties and responsibilities of a Adjunct Lecturer:

  • Be on duty for two to three days a week to provide thematic leadership within the department on matters pertaining to curriculum development and review, academic development and external linkages.
  • Teach one unit relating to the department’s area of expertise.
  • Offer mentorship to academic staff and students within the department.
  • Offer guidance in the development and running of post graduate programs and research in one’s area of expertise.
  • Guide, support and supervise post graduate students within the department as well as academic staff enrolled in PhD programs.

Requirements for appointment.

For appointment to this position the candidate must:

  • Have an earned Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited and recognized University.
  • Be registered with the Engineers Board of Kenya and have a valid membership certificate.
  • Satisfy the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya on Leadership and Integrity.

OR

  • Have a Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited and recognized University with at least three (3) years teaching experience at University level.
  • A minimum of twenty four (24) publication points, of which at least sixteen (16) should be from refereed journal papers
  • Be registered with the Engineers Board of Kenya and have a valid membership certificate.
  • Satisfy the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya on Leadership and Integrity.

Lecturer Grade 6 - Operations Research And Quantitative Methods

For appointment to this position the candidate must:

  • Have an earned Ph.D. in Operations Management with a speciality in Operations Research and Quantitative Methods or equivalent from an accredited and recognized University.
  • Have a Master of Business Administration (Operations Management) or equivalent from an accredited and recognized University.
  • Satisfy the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya on Leadership and Integrity.

NB: PUBLICATION POINTS:

  • One university level scholarly book = 24 publication points;
  • Patented invention or innovation = 16 publications points;
  • One tertiary level scholarly book = 8 publication points;
  • One article in a refereed journal = 8 publication points;
  • Refereed learning modules = 6 publication points;
  • One chapter in a university level scholarly book = 6 publication points;
  • One reviewed conference paper = 4 publication points;
  • One secondary school level text book = 4 publication points;
  • Short communication in refereed journal = 4 publication points;
  • Consultancy and project reports = 4 publication points;
  • Refereed exhibitions and performances = 4 publication points;
  • One primary level primary book = 2 publication points;
  • Editorship of a book or conference proceedings = 2 publication points;
  • Scholarly presentations at conferences/workshops/seminars= 2 publication points;
  • One non-reviewed conference paper = 2 publication points.
  • Book review published in refereed journals = 1publication point.

Assistant Technologist/Principal Technician - Medical Laboratory Sciences

REF: SEKU/ADV/AC/4/11/2022

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintaining an updated inventory of consumables and non-consumables to ensure resources needed are well captured and accounted for.
  • Ensuring that the laboratory equipment and reagents are maintained at good levels for the smooth learning throughout the year.
  • Ensuring that the materials required in the laboratory requested at the right time through the senior technologist.
  • Maintaining the laboratory equipment and records hence facilitating the training of the student attendance during practical sessions by the relevant lectures.
  • Providing a conducive and safe working environment in the laboratory in conformity with the stipulated Occupational Health and Safety standards.
  • Assisting in conducting practicals in relevant disciplines.
  • Carrying out any other duties as assigned by the Principal Technologist.

  • Have Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences from a recognized and accredited institution.
  • Have mastery of the concepts and principles of a specialist field, ability to manage other professionals or experts in this field.
  • Be proficient in computer applications.
  • Satisfy the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya on Leadership and Integrity.

Assistant Technologist/Principal Technician - Chemistry

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Working with Senior Technologist to conduct practical sessions in order to equip the students with practical skills in relevant disciplines.
  • Carrying out relevant training and development activities to adapt to new and changing trends in the various academic disciplines.
  • Providing technical support to staff, postgraduate and undergraduate students when required in the laboratory area to achieve a concussive learning and training experience.
  • Providing support services to academic research innovations and departmental income generation as a means of generating income for the Institution.
  • Making requisitions for purchases in a timely manner to facilitate efficient operations for laboratory through availability of materials.

Requirements for appointment.

For appointment to this position the candidate must:

  • Must possess a Masters Degree in Chemistry or related field from an accredited and recognized institution.

OR

  • Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or related field from an accredited and recognized institution with at least four (4) years working experience;
  • Be a member of a relevant professional body.
  • Have mastery of the concepts and principles of a specialist field, ability to manage other professionals or experts in this field.
  • Be proficient in computer applications.
  • Satisfy the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya on Leadership and Integrity.
