Development Manager - Foundations, Orgs, Institutions (Africa)

Responsibilities

The GFOI AFR Manager will actively lead developing relations internally and externally with peer organizations, bilateral and multilateral institutions, develop the GFOI AFR pipeline, targets, and forecasts. S/he will also manage in developing and training staff on FOI tools for effective fundraising.

The GFOI AFR Manager will report to the Director of Europe, MENA, and Africa (Dir EME/AFR) GFOI as a FOI fundraiser for the AFR Region. S/he will identify pipeline opportunities and FOI forecasts for the Africa region. S/he will guide pre-positioning activity with HFHI/HFH and contribute to coordination of Institutional and Peer activity with relevant HFH colleagues. S/he will actively collaborate across the HFH network to meet high level of quality, productivity and service which leads to strong internal/external partnerships.

The Manager will lead with the Dir EME/AFR a fiscal target for the AFR region of $2m in cash inflows that increases by 25% each year and contribute to team success. In accordance with HFHI’s global standards, policies, and protocols, develop and/or manage and maintain all systems necessary for successful FOI fundraising in AFR.

The GFOI AFR Manager will also serve as a core member of a decentralized AFR regional team.

Key Duties

  • To develop relations internally and externally, develop the GFOI AFR pipeline, targets, and forecasts (70% of time)
  • Lead with the Dir EME/AFR a collaborative process on FOI and Peer activity including pre-positioning, forecasting, Go No Go (G/NG), proposal development and After-Action Review (AAR)
  • Identify opportunities through forecasts and market intelligence to help achieve HFH’s objectives
  • Prepare briefings to guide Dir EME/AFR and HFHI leadership with FOI / Peer engagement as needed
  • Build and maintain effective institutional relations globally and regionally with guidance from the Dir EME/AFR as well as maintaining the CRM systems Strengthen the AFR FOI pipeline of awards by 25% annually.
  • Strengthen (the external) partnership and maintain existing relationships
  • To develop and manage training staff on FOI tools for effective fundraising (30% of time)
  • Lead with the Dir EME/AFR the design of relevant GFOI tools and training and advice to the HFHI network to encourage AFR FOI champions.
  • Manage stewardship of awards with Grant Managers and guidance from the Dir EME/AFR.
  • Guide the execution of donor strategies in close collaboration with internal HFHI/HFH colleagues.
  • Coordinate multiple high-quality G0/No Go processes and proposals for AFR region in collaboration with GFOI and key (internal/external) stakeholders to increase number of awardsDevelop with GFOI an AFR FOI pre-positioning plan to increase partnerships in the AFR region

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in International Development, Global Affairs, International Relations
  • 5+ years of related experience, including proven FOI Partnership/Fundraising Experience with bilateral and multilateral institutions i.e., EU, FCDO, USAID, World Bank etc.
  • Resource development experience in securing grants with the top funders in the sector.
  • Solid expertise in pre-positioning and establishing successful relationships leading to pipeline growth.
  • Proficient in analyzing FOI trends, grant guidelines/requirements, coordinating program development/review and budget development/review.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with strong interpersonal and presentation skills in both Arabic and English.
  • Solutions-oriented and collaborative in an evolving, dynamic, inter-cultural global team. Reflects the organizational principles through on time delivery of work products in changing work terrains as the organization rapidly evolves.
  • Disciplined; perform well under pressure and capable of balancing priorities to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Commitment to delivering excellent internal and external customer service.
  • Computer literate; able to use word-processing, spreadsheet, database, and project communication software e.g., Microsoft TEAMS for global information sharing and knowledge management.

Senior Director, International Communications

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for developing and implementing international communications strategies related to advocacy, marketing, fundraising and programs.
  • Unify communications for a global network of four area offices (Africa; Asia-Pacific; Europe and the Middle East; and Latin America and the Caribbean) and 70 national organizations.
  • Provide strategic communications leadership and support for International Communications team, optimizing the time, talents and resources of regional and program communications functions.
  • Lead International Communications team in the development of core messaging, stories and other tools describing Habitat’s mission and programs outside the U.S. and Canada
  • Provide leadership and coordination for communications support for international disaster response and recovery programs
  • Lead international crisis communications work and provide crisis counsel to the international Habitat network in close collaboration with Global Communications leadership.
  • Serve on the leadership team of the 85+ person Global Communications division, modeling inclusive and accountable leadership and a culture of belonging

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • 15+ years of related experience in communications, including at least 5 years in a managerial or professional role leading communications and/or advocacy function.
  • Proven, demonstrated knowledge of advocacy communications strategies, tactics and objectives.
  • Proven, demonstrated knowledge of public and media relations concepts, techniques and practices.
  • Leadership and people management, including coaching, training, and motivating employees to new levels of excellence.
  • Knowledge of current and emerging communications issues and trends, particularly in the nonprofit sector.
  • Ability to provide effective counsel on strategic and critical communications and advocacy issues.
  • Outstanding written communications skills, with mastery of AP style.
  • Outstanding oral communications skills, with ability to develop and deliver effective presentations.
  • Commitment to fostering a collaborative work environment within the International Communications team, the larger Global Communications division, and the broader organization.
  • Demonstrable experience establishing and overseeing the execution of communications systems that help teams work together and get results, particularly in federated organizations.
