Research Officer I

Key Responsibilities  

  • Conduct qualitative data and gender analyses, responsible for coding and identifying themes.
  • Conduct literature reviews and syntheses.
  • Help develop and coordinate technical workshops.
  • Assist in preparation of discussion papers, donor reports.
  • Assist in handling and producing qualitative data (including sampling and development of protocols).
  • Assist with field implementation of study activities (training interviewers/facilitators, coordinate piloting, etc.).
  • Assist with development of research instruments and analytical tools.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Sociology, Anthropology, Economics, Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Education/Communication, Public Policy, or a closely related field is required.
  • Ability to perform qualitative data analysis and gender analysis; ability to report the results.
  • Excellent drafting skills and analytical mind.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct research.
  • Experienced in conducting literature reviews of academic publications, research reports, etc.
  • Demonstrated fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team-oriented multi-cultural environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task as needed, consistently meet deadlines and manage time well.
  • Demonstrated professional level of attention to detail and accuracy of work.
  • Ability to work independently, with initiative and minimal supervision.
  • Familiarity with popular software packages and internet-based systems.
  • Strong background in natural resource management, sustainable agricultural intensification, and gender research in developing countries.
  • Demonstrated experience in coordinating activities in the field and experience assisting in coordinating qualitative data collection.
  • Demonstrated experience in effective interaction and coordination with collaborators and project partners.

Research Associate II– Livestock Genetics

Key Responsibilities

  • Collate information on production systems, and contribute to capacity development in national systems through developing training manuals and providing training livestock breeding management for enhanced productivity in different systems
  • Support the implementation of project activities involving stakeholders and partners using participatory research in development approaches
  • Contribute to the development of paperless data capture tools for livestock production systems, provide support in their use, and monitor information generated from different sources.
  • Provide support in the management, and use of livestock data, including generation of statistics, documentation, and dissemination of results for use by key stakeholders in decision making

Requirements

  • MSc in Animal production or related field
  • Two years relevant working experience
  • Experience in designing and implementing participatory rural appraisal surveys using paperless data capture tools, with additional experience in developing paperless data capture tools for farm data capture
  • Experience in working with small ruminant production under challenging environment conditions, and in developing content for extension materials.
  • Ability to plan and implement workshops training trainers on improving livestock productivity in low input systems.
  • Ability to implement statistical analyses of data, document outputs and contribute to developing quality publications.
  • Good general knowledge of livestock production systems in developing countries, and R4D approaches to strengthen these
  • Good knowledge of statistics, MS-Office, and use of livestock databases
  • Ability to work independently and with internal and external stakeholders
  •  Good communication and interpersonal skills
