The role
We are looking for a Junior BI Analyst to help us organize and visualize operations data for our clients. One of our current projects involves building a custom reporting layer for a new partner. This partner is an East Coast logistics firm that currently relies on hundreds of disconnected spreadsheets. Your goal will be to help us move that data into a centralized database and create clear, functional dashboards that their warehouse managers can use every day. This is a fully remote role and is a great fit for someone who enjoys organizing messy information into logical structures.
About Pixel Systems
Pixel Systems is a small, remote software agency that builds the tools teams actually use. We do not do flashy consumer apps or marketing sites. Instead, we focus on the practical stuff: admin panels, CRM integrations, and the database migrations that people usually try to avoid. Our clients come to us when they need to replace a sprawling spreadsheet with a real database or get their different software tools to finally talk to one another.
We believe that working code is better than a perfect plan that never ships. Our approach is straightforward. We provide fixed quotes before we start, we do weekly demos, and we hand over everything, including the code, the documentation, and even walkthrough videos, when we are finished. We use reliable, well-tested technologies like Node, React, and Postgres because we want the software we build to be stable and easy to maintain. Many of us are senior developers who prefer solving real operational headaches over chasing the latest trends.
The role
In this role, you will spend your time digging into how our clients run their businesses. You will not just be making charts: you will be making sure the data behind those charts is accurate and clean. Since this is an entry level position, you will work closely with our senior team to learn our internal processes for data ingestion and cleanup. This is a paid, permanent position, and the compensation is competitive for the modern remote market.
Your day to day work will include:
- Connecting to various APIs to pull raw data into our staging environments.
- Cleaning and restructuring data from messy Excel files and CSV exports.
- Writing SQL queries to aggregate data for weekly and monthly reports.
- Building and maintaining dashboards using tools like Metabase, Tableau, or Power BI.
- Writing clear documentation so our clients understand where their data comes from.
- Investigating data discrepancies when a report does not look quite right.
- Assisting with the migration of legacy data into new Postgres databases.
What you bring
We are looking for someone who is curious and methodical. You do not need years of professional experience, but you do need to be comfortable working with numbers and logic. We value people who can admit when they are stuck and who enjoy the process of trial and error that comes with data work. Since we are a remote team, being able to communicate clearly in writing is essential.
- Basic knowledge of SQL, including how to join tables and filter results.
- A high level of comfort with Excel, especially functions like VLOOKUP or Pivot Tables.
- The ability to explain a technical problem to someone who does not have a technical background.
- Great attention to detail: you are the type of person who notices when a total does not add up correctly.
- Reliable internet and the ability to manage your own schedule in a remote setting.
- A pragmatic approach to problem solving: you care more about the solution working than it being fancy.
Helpful background
While not strictly required, familiarity with any of these tools or concepts will help you get started more quickly:
- Experience with Postgres or other relational databases.
- Basic familiarity with JavaScript or Python for simple data scripts.
- Past experience with BI tools like Metabase, Looker, or Power BI.
- An interest in logistics, supply chains, or warehouse operations.
- Previous experience working in a remote or highly independent environment.
Working at Pixel Systems
Working here is different from working at a large corporation. We do not have layers of middle management or long meetings about strategy. We focus on building things and shipping them. Because we are a small team, you will see the immediate results of your work. When you fix a reporting bug or launch a new dashboard, the client (like the operations manager at that East Coast firm) will use it that same afternoon to make decisions.
We work 100 percent remotely, which means we value results over hours spent at a desk. We expect everyone to be professional and responsive during the workday, but we do not track your every move. We provide the tools you need to succeed and then get out of your way so you can do the work. This is a calm, focused environment where we prioritize steady progress and clear communication over drama and urgency. We are looking for someone who wants to learn the fundamentals of data analysis by building things that matter to real businesses.
