Role Summary

To teach Kiswahili as a subject (listening, speaking, reading, writing) following the CBC curriculum, promoting fluency, grammar mastery, Kiswahili literature (fasihi), and appreciation of Kenyan culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver lessons in Sarufi (grammar), Ufahamu (comprehension), Utungaji (composition), Fasihi Simulizi (oral literature), and Fasihi Andishi (written literature).
  • Use role-play, debates, poems, songs, and storytelling to enhance speaking skills.
  • Set and mark assignments including insha (essays) and dictated passages.
  • Prepare learners for school-based assessments (SBAs) and KPSEA/KCSE (depending on level).
  • Organise Kiswahili club activities (e.g., mashairi competitions, utongozaji).
  • Help learners appreciate Kiswahili as a national and official language.

Requirements

  • Diploma in Education (Kiswahili) or B.Ed. (Kiswahili).
  • TSC registration.
  • Excellent spoken and written Kiswahili (kiwango cha sanifu).
  • At least 1 year teaching Kiswahili in a Kenyan school.
  • Passion for literature and language games.
