Job Summary

Laboratory Store Keeper- Thika Campus

Qualifications

Education, Skills and Experience

Must have:

  • A Diploma in Laboratory Science, Applied Biology, Analytical Chemistry, Medical Laboratory Technology, or a related field from a recognized institution.
  • At least 3 years of work experience in a similar role.
  • Computer literacy and proficiency in inventory management systems and basic computer applications.
  • Knowledge of laboratory chemicals, consumables, and stores management procedures.
  • Strong organizational, record-keeping and reporting skills.

Key responsibilities also include

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Maintain detailed records of purchases.
  • Enter all chemicals, glassware and other lab consumables received into the computerized inventory.
  • Forecast and maintain inventory levels of commonly used consumables and minor equipment to meet departmental needs.
  • Maintain a stockroom of chemical supplies and apparatus to ensure availability of requested items.
  • Record inventoried laboratory items in logbooks, stock cards, or computerized systems to maintain accurate inventory records.
  • Compile reports of issuance and expenditures.
  • Check incoming goods against delivery notes with respect to quantity, condition and specifications.
  • Place goods according to designated storage locations and safety requirements.
  • Maintain accuracy between physical stock balances and inventory records in the system.
  • Conduct periodic stock taking and prepare stock reports and reconciliations.
  • Ensure adequate stock levels and prevent stock-outs of laboratory supplies.
  • Report inadequacies, damages or delays in supplies to the Principal Laboratory Technologist.
  • Observe safety procedures in handling and storage of laboratory chemicals and materials.
  • Perform any other duty as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
