Job Description
Valley Hospital is a leading Level 4 healthcare facility in Nakuru City providing both inpatient and outpatient services. We are seeking to recruit a Laboratory Technologist to support the delivery of accurate, timely, and reliable diagnostic services essential for effective patient care.
This role plays a vital part in conducting laboratory tests, analysing clinical specimens, ensuring quality and safety in laboratory processes, and supporting clinicians in informed decision-making.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences
Valid registration and membership with the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians & Technologists Board (KMLTTB)
Minimum 3 years' experience in a similar healthcare facility
Demonstrated competence in diagnostic testing, laboratory operations, and regulatory compliance
Key Competencies
Ability to perform and interpret a wide range of laboratory tests (haematology, microbiology, chemistry, parasitology)
Skilled in operating, calibrating, and troubleshooting laboratory equipment
Strong understanding of quality control procedures and laboratory standards
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in testing and reporting
Good communication and collaboration skills with clinicians and healthcare teams
Commitment to biosafety, infection control, and ethical handling of patient samples
Key Responsibilities
Conduct routine and specialized laboratory tests on patient samples using approved procedures
Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability
Analyze and verify test results, ensuring timely reporting to clinicians
Prepare, label, document, and store specimens appropriately
Adhere to internal and external quality assurance protocols
Maintain accurate records of tests performed, results, and equipment maintenance
Ensure compliance with biosafety standards and proper waste disposal
Monitor laboratory reagent and consumable inventory and report low stock levels
Collaborate closely with clinicians and other healthcare staff to support coordinated patient care
Perform any other duties assigned by the Laboratory Technologist In Charge
