Job Description

To ensure the provision of clean, safe, and hygienically processed hospital linen, uniforms, and patient clothing through proper collection, sorting, washing, drying, ironing, folding, and distribution processes. The role supports infection prevention and control (IPC) standards by ensuring safe handling of contaminated linen and proper use of laundry equipment and chemicals within a healthcare environment.

Responsibilities

  • Collect soiled linen from all hospital units in a timely and hygienic manner.
  • Sort linen according to type, color, fabric, and level of contamination.
  • Safely handle contaminated linen in line with infection control guidelines.
  • Operate industrial washing machines, dryers, ironing machines, and other laundry equipment.
  • Wash, dry, iron, fold, and package hospital linen, staff uniforms, and patient clothing.
  • Ensure correct use and safe handling of detergents, disinfectants, and other laundry chemicals.
  • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards within the laundry unit at all times.
  • Report any malfunctioning equipment or maintenance needs promptly to the supervisor.
  • Maintain accurate records of linen received, processed, issued, and damaged items.
  • Ensure timely distribution of clean linen to all hospital departments.
  • Support inventory control of linen stock and report shortages or losses.
  • Adhere strictly to hospital policies, occupational safety, and infection prevention standards.
  • Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
  • Perform any other duty as may be assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of operating industrial laundry equipment and handling laundry chemicals safely.
  • Good understanding of infection prevention and control (IPC) practices and linen handling procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness and hygiene standards.
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding environment.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • High level of integrity, reliability, and personal discipline.

Qualifications

  • Certificate in Laundry Operations, Housekeeping, or a related field from a recognized institution.
  • Previous experience in a hospital or large institutional laundry setting will be an added advantage
