Project Background
The Engaging Kenyan Youth in Agriculture and Nutrition (EKYAN) project aims to create sustainable economic opportunities for youth in agriculture. The project is funded by UNICEF under the Generation Unlimited initiative and operates in Samburu, Busia, and Kisumu Counties. The project runs from November 2024 to April 2026 and targets 5,000 youth.
Purpose of the Evaluation
SNV seeks a consulting firm to conduct an impact evaluation of the EKYAN project. The evaluation will assess project performance using OECD-DAC criteria including relevance, effectiveness, efficiency, impact, and sustainability.
The study will assess changes in youth livelihoods, employment, agribusiness engagement, financial inclusion, and economic empowerment.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop an inception report and evaluation methodology
- Conduct mixed-methods research (qualitative and quantitative)
- Collect and analyze panel data
- Prepare draft and final evaluation reports
- Present findings during validation workshop
- Submit final clean datasets and qualitative transcripts
Deliverables
- Inception report
- Draft evaluation report
- Final evaluation report
- Case studies and best practices documentation
- Clean quantitative and qualitative datasets
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in agriculture, social sciences, statistics, agricultural economics or related field
- Minimum 7 years’ experience conducting impact evaluations
- Experience in agriculture and youth livelihood programs
- Strong quantitative and qualitative research skills
- Proficiency in SPSS, STATA, R, Kobo Toolbox or ODK
- Excellent communication skills in English and Kiswahili
Selection Criteria
Selection will be based on technical capacity (80%) and financial proposal (20%). This consultancy is open to firms legally registered in Kenya.
