Job Purpose:
The Lecturer in Old Testament Biblical Studies will be responsible for teaching, research, curriculum development, and academic mentorship within the School of Theology. The role contributes to the formation of biblically grounded scholars and leaders through quality instruction, scholarly engagement, and spiritual mentorship, in line with the university’s Christian mission and the CUE academic standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teaching & Learning o Prepare and deliver instruction in Old Testament, Biblical Studies, and Biblical languages, at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. o Develop and update course materials in line with current biblical scholarship and institutional objectives. o Use appropriate pedagogical methods, including blended and student centered learning approaches.
- Examine students in their relevant studies and fields.
- Research & Publication o Engage in original research in Old Testament studies and publish in peer reviewed journals and other academic platforms.
- Supervise student research projects and theses at various levels.
- Participate in departmental and institutional research activities.
- Curriculum Development o Participate in the development and review of academic programs and syllabi in compliance with CUE regulations. o Ensure alignment of course content with institutional philosophy and Christian worldview.
- Student Mentorship & Advising o Provide academic advising, pastoral care, and spiritual mentorship to students.
- Promote ethical conduct and academic excellence among students.
- Institutional Contribution o Participate in departmental meetings, academic committees, and university functions.
- Contribute to the university’s community engagement and Christian formation activities.
Qualifications and Experience :
- A PhD in Old Testament Biblical Studies or a closely related field from a recognized university.
- A minimum of three (3) years of university-level teaching or relevant professional experience.
- Demonstrated evidence of research and publication in reputable academic journals.
- Commitment to Christian values and integration of faith and learning.
- Membership in a relevant academic or theological professional body is an added advantage.
Key Competencies:
- Strong grasp of Biblical Hebrew and exegesis methodologies.
- Ability to teach diverse theological perspectives within an evangelical framework. • Capacity to theologize within the African and global contexts
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Team player with strong interpersonal and mentoring skills.
- Ability to work independently and contribute to interdisciplinary teams.
- A committed born-again evangelical Christian.
