Background

Legal & Compliance Officer Job CFAO Motors. Responsible for providing legal support, reviewing contracts, monitoring regulatory compliance, managing legal documentation, and identifying business risks. Requires an LLB, relevant professional legal qualifications, compliance experience, and strong knowledge of corporate and regulatory requirements. The role is based Nairobi with duties performed on-site.

Job Purpose

The main purpose of the role is to provide proactive legal and compliance support to CFAO Mobility Kenya and its relevant business operations. The role will provide legal advice, manage and negotiate commercial contracts, and lead the implementation, monitoring and continuous improvement of the Company’s legal and compliance framework. The role will monitor legal and regulatory requirements, identify and mitigate compliance risks, and work closely with business teams to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, internal policies and CFAO requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Legal Advisory & Contracts

  • Draft, review, negotiate and advise on commercial contracts and other legal documents to protect the Company’s interests and manage legal and commercial risks.
  • Maintain and update standard contract templates and provide guidance to business teams on contractual requirements.
  • Support contract lifecycle management, including execution, tracking of key obligations, renewals, expiries and termination.
  • Identify contractual risks and recommend appropriate mitigation measures.
  • Work with business teams to ensure contractual commitments are understood and complied with.

Compliance & Regulatory

  • Monitor changes in applicable laws, regulations, regulatory guidance and industry requirements and assess their impact on the business.
  • Maintain and support implementation of the Company’s compliance framework, policies, procedures and compliance calendar.
  • Conduct compliance reviews and assessments and identify areas of non-compliance, emerging risks and required corrective actions.
  • Work with business functions to develop and monitor compliance action plans and ensure timely closure of identified gaps.
  • Provide practical guidance to business teams on legal and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Support regulatory and other statutory obligations, as applicable.
  • Support preparation of compliance reports and management updates on key compliance risks, actions and outstanding matters.
  • Assist in developing and delivering legal and compliance awareness and training programmes.
  • Promote a culture of compliance, ethical conduct and accountability across the business.

Legal & Compliance Reporting

  • Prepare periodic reports on contracts, legal risks, compliance status, regulatory developments and outstanding actions.
  • Maintain appropriate legal and compliance records and trackers.
  • Identify inefficient processes and recommend improvements to enhance legal and compliance effectiveness.

Qualifications

Minimum level of experience required to perform effectively in the role

  • Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree.
  • Minimum of 5 years working experience
  • Qualification or certification in compliance, corporate governance, data protection, Anti-Money-Laundering and related fields.
  • Demonstrable experience in commercial contract drafting, review and negotiation.
  • Practical experience in legal and regulatory compliance, risk management and corporate governance.
  • Experience in the automotive, manufacturing, mobility or other regulated business environment will be an advantage.
