Background

Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE) is a semi autonomous government agency of the Ministry of Education, Kenya. It was established through a Legal Notice No. 17 of 14th February 1986. The Institute is currently run by a council appointed by the Minister for Education. The Head of the Institute is the Director who is also the Secretary to the Council.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare legal opinions;
  • Provide legal risk reviews and providing legal advice; and
  • Review ongoing cases and advising management accordingly.
  • Provide and interpret legal information;
  • Conduct training and disseminating appropriate legal information to staff;
  • Review and draft contracts, agreements internal policies and ensuring that they are in compliance with statutory or legal requirements;
  • Monitor and report non-compliance issues;
  • Handle pre-litigation legal disputes and inquiries;
  • Participate in policy development and advising on legal policy issues
  • Ensure compliance with principles and values of good governance;
  • Implement strategic plans and objectives in respect to the legal function;

Qualifications / Work Experience

  • Professional Cumulative service period of three (3) year relevant work experience as a Legal Officer II or in a comparable position
  • Academic Bachelors of Laws (LLB) Degree from a recognized Institution
  • Academic Post graduate Diploma in Law (Advocates Training Programme) from the Kenya School of Law
  • Professional Membership to the Law Society of Kenya (LSK);
  • Professional Admitted as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya
