Job Summary

The Librarian will manage the school library and support students and staff in accessing, using, and developing library and learning resources.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the school library.
  • Organise, catalogue, and maintain books and other learning resources.
  • Assist students and teachers in locating appropriate resources.
  • Maintain accurate records of library materials and loans.
  • Issue and receive books and other library resources.
  • Monitor overdue, lost, or damaged materials.
  • Maintain a quiet, clean, safe, and welcoming library environment.
  • Support students in developing effective research and reading skills.
  • Promote reading and encourage students to make regular use of the library.
  • Assist teachers with identifying suitable educational resources.
  • Monitor the condition of library materials and recommend replacements where necessary.
  • Support acquisition and organisation of new books and learning materials.
  • Maintain appropriate library databases and records.
  • Assist in organising reading programmes, literacy activities, and other library initiatives.

Ideal Candidate

  • Diploma or degree in Library and Information Science, Education, or a related field.
  • Previous experience in a school library or educational environment is an advantage.
  • Good knowledge of library organisation and cataloguing.
  • Strong computer and information-management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Passion for reading, learning, and working with students.
  • Organised, patient, approachable, and detail-oriented.
