Background
The Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) is a professional body for certified public accountants (CPAs) in Kenya. ICPAK is a full member of the International Federation of Accountants and the Pan African Federation of Accounting.
Job Summary
To facilitate the issuance of Practicing Certificates and Annual Firm and Partner Licenses, ensuring that only qualified and eligible applicants are admitted into membership in accordance with the Institute's policies and regulatory requirements. The officer will also be responsible for resolving members' issues and responding to enquiries.
The Licensing Officer shall report to the Manager, Registration and Licensing and perform the following duties and responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities:
Processing and issuance of Practicing Certificate and Annual Licensing
- Receive, review and process applications for the issuance of Practicing Certificates and the issuance and renewal of annual licenses for practicing firms and partners.
- Verify that applicants have met all statutory and regulatory requirements for the issuance or renewal of practicing certificates and annual licenses.
- Assess applications for completeness and follow up on any outstanding information or documentation.
- Prepare applications and recommendations for consideration by the Registration and Quality Assurance Committee (RQAC).
- Process approved practicing certificates and annual licenses for issuance.
- Print, register and issue practicing certificates and annual firm and partner licenses, ensuring they are duly authorized and securely maintained.
- Maintain accurate records and databases of practicing certificate holders, licensed firms and licensed partners.
- Maintain proper custody of license and certificate stationery and ensure accurate records of all certificates and licenses issued.
- Prepare reports, schedules and supporting documentation relating to practicing certificates and annual licensing for management and Committee meetings.
- Liaise with relevant internal departments to facilitate the licensing and registration process and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
Member Support and Resolution
- Respond promptly to members' enquiries received through email, telephone, the member portal and other communication channels.
- Facilitate the timely resolution of members' registration, licensing and practicing certificate issues.
- Provide guidance to members on registration, licensing requirements, application procedures and regulatory obligations.
- Follow up on outstanding member requests and ensure timely communication on the status of applications.
- Maintain records of member enquiries, complaints and resolutions and escalate complex matters where necessary.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing member service delivery and the efficiency of registration and licensing processes.

Experience:
- Graduate entry level (0–2 years' relevant experience).
Qualifications: Academic & Professional
- Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Accounting, Business Administration, Management, or another relevant business-related field.
- Relevant postgraduate diploma or professional certificate will be an added advantage.
Behavioural competencies
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent organizational and record management skills.
- Good interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information with integrity.
- Good planning and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
