Responsibilities or duties

The role provides support in strengthening the OFSP Value Chain through Increased Production and enhanced Market access in Machakos County.

Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)

A bachelor’s degree in either of the following fields: Agriculture/Agricultural Economics, business management Environmental Science, Disaster Management, Social Sciences or any other relevant field.

Experience needed

2 - 3 years of experience in supporting strengthening of agricultural value chains in ASAL regions.

A working knowledge of Project Cycle Management and Climate Smart Agriculture. Candidates with working knowledge of Community Managed Disaster Risk Reduction, Natural Resource Management, farmer Field Schools, Making Markets work for the Poor and Value Chains Development will be considered as an additional advantage. Computer skills. Strong oral and written English. Competencies required: Managing Yourself, Individual Leadership, Communicating and working with others, Delivering results.

  • Support the day-to-day implementation of agricultural livelihoods and value chain activities in designated project areas.
  • Collaborate with relevant county government departments, including Agriculture, Food Security and Cooperative Development, Water, Irrigation, Environment, Climate Change, Gender, Youth, and Social Welfare, to facilitate effective project implementation.
  • Mobilize and engage farmer groups, producer organizations, and community members to participate in project activities and training.
  • Assist in strengthening agricultural value chains through support to production, aggregation, postharvest management, market linkages, and enterprise development initiatives.
  • Facilitate and coordinate farmer training, demonstrations, field days, exchange visits, and other capacitybuilding activities in line with project plans.
  • Support farmer group development and strengthening, including governance, record keeping, business planning, and collective marketing initiatives.
  • Promote adoption of improved agricultural technologies, climate-smart agriculture practices, and good agronomic practices among target farmers.
  • Establish and maintain productive relationships with value chain actors, including input suppliers, extension providers, financial institutions, traders, processors, and other market actors.
  • Support data collection, farmer registration, beneficiary tracking, and maintenance of accurate project databases.
  • Conduct regular field visits to monitor project activities, assess progress, identify challenges, and gather feedback from beneficiaries and stakeholders.
  • Support the documentation of success stories, lessons learned, case studies, and best practices from project implementation.
  • Work closely with the Monitoring and Evaluation team to collect, verify, and report project performance data.
  • Assist in organizing stakeholder meetings, review forums, market linkage events, and coordination meetings at community and county levels.
  • Support implementation of approved project activities in line with work plans, budgets, organizational policies, and donor requirements.
  • Contribute to the preparation of weekly and monthly progress reports, highlighting achievements, challenges, and recommendations.
  • Follow up on logistical and administrative requirements necessary for smooth implementation of field activities.
