Background
Our client is seeking to hire a Logistics & Operations Manager who will oversee the planning, coordination, and execution of logistics and transport operations across East Africa. The role is responsible for ensuring efficient movement of cargo, optimizing fleet utilization, maintaining operational excellence, and delivering exceptional customer service while ensuring compliance with regional transport regulations. The successful candidate will drive operational efficiency, improve service delivery, manage cross-border logistics, lead operational teams, and implement continuous improvement initiatives that support business growth and profitability.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate, and oversee daily logistics, transport, and fleet operations across East Africa.
- Ensure the timely, cost-effective, and compliant movement of cargo while maintaining high customer service standards.
- Develop and implement operational strategies to improve efficiency, productivity, service quality, and business continuity.
- Lead route planning and optimization to maximize fleet utilization, asset performance, and cost efficiency.
- Oversee fleet scheduling, maintenance, vehicle availability, fuel consumption, and overall fleet productivity.
- Coordinate cross-border logistics operations, liaising with customs agents, clearing partners, transport authorities, and regulatory bodies to ensure smooth cargo movement.
- Ensure compliance with transport regulations, regional trade requirements, licensing, insurance, company policies, and health, safety, security, and environmental (HSSE) standards.
- Prepare and manage operational budgets, monitor logistics costs, negotiate with transport service providers and suppliers, and identify cost-saving opportunities to enhance profitability.
- Conduct operational risk assessments, implement mitigation measures, and support continuous improvement of operational performance.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Transport Management, or a related field.
- Professional certifications are an added advantage.
- Minimum 7 years’ experience in logistics, transport or supply chain operations, including at least 3–5 years in a management role.
- Demonstrated expertise in fleet scheduling, route optimization, vehicle utilization, customs coordination, and regional cross-border transport operations
- Proven experience managing end-to-end logistics, fleet, and transport operations, preferably across multiple East African countries.
- Strong leadership skills with experience managing operations teams, driving process improvements, and ensuring business continuity.
- Thorough knowledge of transport regulations, customs procedures, health and safety standards, licensing, insurance requirements, and operational risk management across East Africa.
- Experience preparing and managing operational budgets, controlling logistics costs, negotiating with transport providers, and identifying cost-saving opportunities while maintaining profitability.
