The purpose of this role
The purpose of this role is to ensure the mechanical integrity and continuous operation of all plant machinery during the night shift. The supervisor will be responsible for leading a team of technicians to execute both planned and emergency maintenance, ensuring production targets are met without compromise to safety or quality standards.
Responsibilities or duties
- Ensure maximum machine availability by overseeing rapid response to mechanical and electrical breakdowns during the night shift.
- Supervise and sign off on scheduled preventive maintenance tasks specifically targeting high-speed nail-making machines and wire drawing lines.
- Provide hands-on guidance to technicians and artisans in troubleshooting complex hydraulic, pneumatic, and PLC-controlled systems.
- Enforce strict adherence to Lockout-Tagout (LOTO) and Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) protocols throughout the facility.
- Maintain accurate logs of all maintenance activities and spare parts used for a seamless handover to the morning management team.
- Monitor machine performance throughout the shift to identify and address potential technical issues before they lead to downtime.
- Coordinate with the production department to prioritize repairs based on the night shift’s manufacturing schedule.
Qualifications or requirements
Mandatory Requirements:
- Must be a Kenyan Citizen.
- Must be willing and able to work permanent night shifts.
Education & Skills:
- Bachelor’s Degree or Higher National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
- Proficiency in reading technical drawings and hydraulic schematics.
- Experience using Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) or ERP-based maintenance modules.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a diverse technical team with minimal supervision.
Experience needed
- A minimum of 5–7 years of experience in a maintenance role within the Kenyan steel or heavy manufacturing industry.
- Prior experience maintaining nail-making machines, wire drawing machines, and industrial furnaces is essential.
