Geothermal Development Company (GDC) is a wholly-owned state corporation in the Republic of Kenya. Established in 2008 following the unbundling of the energy sector, GDC operates within the generation sub-sector with the mandate to fast-track the development of geothermal resources in Kenya.
Position Overview
Grade: GDC 3
Reference Number: GDC/HRM/BD/GRC/MGRC/01/2026
Job Purpose
The Manager – Geothermal Resource Centre will head GDC’s knowledge hub, driving academic partnerships, organizing training programs, archiving historical geothermal databases, and leading technical research on geothermal advancements.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the operations of the Geothermal Resource Centre, developing it into a leading regional knowledge hub.
- Oversee the archiving, indexing, and digitization of all GDC technical publications, well reports, and scientific data.
- Coordinate international and local training programs, seminars, and academic exchange programs in geothermal studies.
- Build and maintain strategic collaborations with universities, research institutes, and international development agencies (e.g., UNU-GTP, JICA).
- Lead the publication of institutional technical papers, research journals, and geothermal resource databases.
- Manage GDC’s technical library services and digital knowledge sharing systems.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Geosciences, Engineering, Information Science, or an equivalent technical field.
- Master’s degree in a relevant discipline or post-graduate certificate in Geothermal Studies is an advantage.
- Minimum of 8–10 years of professional experience in technical research, capacity building, or geoscientific database management, with 3 years in a leadership role.
- Excellent technical writing, event coordination, and networking skills.
- Proficient in knowledge management frameworks and digital database systems.
