Entry Requirements:

An officer at this level shall report to Senior Deputy Chief Conservator of Forests (Forest Conservation Management)

  Duties and responsibilities;

  1. Planning, developing, coordinating and implementing programmes and policies falling under Survey, Mapping and Forest information management
  2. Coordinating surveys of institutional estate, boundary demarcations and mapping of forest reserves and ensuring that all cadastral records are held in safe custody.
  3. Provision of expert witness on litigation matters concerning land disputes.
  4. Overseeing the compilation of documents leading to the drawing up of boundary plans, titles, leases, subleases, licenses and permits issued to or by Kenya Forest Service.  
  5. Carries out evaluation and certification of works submitted by Survey and Mapping Consultants.
  6. Identification of illegally occupied forest areas.
  7. Oversee preparation and safe custody of forestry related charts and diagrams.
  8. Lead in the production of “blue print” maps, plans and charts for use by other KFS departments.
  9. Coordinating, Gathering, analysis and modelling of forest planning datasets
  10. Promote mapping of Forestry Resources through use of Remote Sensing, Mobile GIS and Web GIS systems
  11. Advise on relevant systems to be developed for National Forest Monitoring
  12. Advise on development of Mobile Geodata Collection tools
  13. Oversee the generation of Geographical Information Systems and remotely sensed database products to inform important national and international reporting processes e.g United Nations Forum Convention on Climate Change, Forest Resource Assessment for Forest and Agricultural Organization
  14. Promote data sharing security are followed within KFS.
  15. Set standards for Geographic Information system and Remote Sensing metadata.
  16. Oversee data sharing and security arrangements
  17. Provide authentic statistics on the forest cover on a temporal and spatial dimension disaggregated to the devolved levels of government.  
  18. Liaise with other government departments, organizations and projects in the generation of spatial temporal land use data.
  19. Carry out Capacity building at regional level on National Carbon Accounting Systems.

Bachelor’s degree in any of the following disciplines; - Land Surveying and Photogrammetry, Geomatic Engineering, Geomatics, Philosophy in Technology (Geoinformatics/Geoinformatics and Information Technology), Geomatic engineering, Technology in Geomatics or Geospatial Engineering or relevant qualification from a recognized institution.
  2. Master’s degree in Land Survey, Land management, Cartography, Photogrammetry, Photolithography, Geomatics, Geomatic Engineering, Technology in Geomatics, Technology in Geoinformatics, Geospatial Engineering, Geographical Information System, Geodesy, Hydrography, Environmental science, Information Science or a relevant qualification from a recognized institution.
  3. Must have served for a minimum of ten (10) years in a relevant field with 3 years in management position.
  4. Membership of the Institution of Surveyors of Kenya (ISK).
  5. Good Public relations and interpersonal skills.
  6. Fulfils the requirements of Chapter 6 of the Constitution;
