Amentum, a global leader in advanced engineering, technical, and professional services serving the US government, allies, and critical infrastructure sectors, is seeking a Marine Shipboard Electrician to support a unique US Navy program on the island of Diego Garcia.

Job Responsibilities

The Marine Shipboard Electrician is responsible for performing maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of shipboard electrical systems and components, with specific expertise required for motor control center operations. This position ensures all electrical systems function safely and efficiently to meet operational requirements. Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Performing electrical maintenance, repairs, and testing on shipboard motor control centers and associated control systems.
  • Inspecting, troubleshooting, and diagnosing faults in electrical systems, including motor control centers, control panels, and related equipment.
  • Aligning, maintaining, and repairing electrical wiring, switchboards, distribution systems, and power generation systems to meet operational demands.
  • Coordinating scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, ensuring effectiveness and minimal disruption to operations.
  • Reading and interpreting technical documentation, schematics, and blueprints to conduct installations, repairs, or adjustments for control systems and electrical components.
  • Replacing faulty components, recalibrating systems, and performing modifications to electrical circuits as needed.
  • Inspecting electrical systems to ensure compliance with safety and performance standards, as well as identifying and correcting potential hazards.
  • Advising and collaborating with maintenance teams to resolve electrical issues and coordinate preventative maintenance tasks.
  • Maintaining and updating equipment records, work logs, and documentation of maintenance activities in compliance with industry and organizational standards.
  • Adhering to all safety protocols, occupational health standards, and regulatory requirements to ensure a safe work environment.

Minimum Requirements

  • Journeyman Electrician certification or equivalent qualification.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in motor control center operations, including troubleshooting and maintaining control systems.
  • Two (2) or more years of experience in electrical maintenance and repair for marine or industrial environments.
  • Proficiency in working with low and medium voltage systems, electrical motors, switchboards, and controllers.
  • Working knowledge of technical manuals, wiring diagrams, schematics, and blueprints for shipboard electrical systems.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Familiarity with safety regulations applicable to electrical systems and marine environments.
  • Must be in possession of a valid passport and able to travel internationally.
  • Passport must be valid for a minimum of one (1) year at the time of hire.
  • Ability to successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain operational readiness throughout the deployment period.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Technical or trade school certification in electrical technology or marine systems.
  • Prior experience working on ship-based systems or in shipboard electrical maintenance for military or government vessels.
  • Knowledge of maintenance standards and regulations related to maritime electrical systems and motor control centers.
  • Previous experience working in OCONUS (Outside the Continental United States) or austere environments.
  • Familiarity with advanced shipboard control systems, power generation, and distribution systems.
