Mechanical Engineer Press Shop (Production)

The Mechanical Engineer – Press Shop is responsible for overseeing daily production activities to ensure process efficiency, product quality, and achievement of production targets. The role focuses on maintaining operational excellence, minimizing rejection and rework, ensuring proper machine utilization, and enforcing safety and quality standards within the press and weld shop operations.

Key Responsibilities

Productivity

  • Ensure daily production targets are achieved as per the production plan.
  • Deploy manpower effectively based on skill level and production requirements.
  • Monitor workflow and optimize machine utilization.
  • Ensure correct tools are used for each process.
  • Maintain proper housekeeping across the production line.

Quality Management

  • Ensure ZERO non-conformity in production processes.
  • Reduce process-related rejection and rework.
  • Perform tool setting for initial batches and carry out minor repairs or adjustments.
  • Ensure adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Use measuring instruments accurately, including:
    • Vernier Caliper
    • Micrometer
    • Height Gauge
    • Bevel Protractor
    • V-Block for complete dimensional inspection
  • Maintain strong focus on continuous process improvement and product quality.

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure all operators strictly follow PPE requirements.
  • Enforce industrial best practices and quality standards.
  • Maintain integrity, confidentiality, and company data security.

Maintenance & Operations Support

  • Perform basic maintenance of machines in the press shop and weld shop.
  • Ensure timely maintenance and availability of machine spares.
  • Develop proactive contingency plans for machine breakdowns or spares shortages.
  • Support troubleshooting and root cause analysis of production issues.

Success Criteria / Performance Indicators

  • Achievement of daily and monthly production targets.
  • Reduction in rejection rate and rework percentage.
  • Zero safety violations.
  • Improved process efficiency and machine uptime.
  • High team discipline and operational compliance.

Required Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of production processes and industrial best practices.
  • Good understanding of process quality and product quality control.
  • Strong focus on detail while maintaining a broader operational perspective.
  • High sense of urgency and timeliness.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • 1–2 years of experience in a press shop / production environment (welding experience preferred).
  • Minimum of 3 years general working experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Hands-on experience with measuring instruments and machine operations.
  • Knowledge of quality standards and production optimization techniques.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
