JOB SUMMARY
The Mechanical Technician will perform a variety of technical and skilled mechanic functions for the machines, equipment maintenance and building repair, including, but not limited to, light and heavy factory equipment. The Mechanical Technician will also ensure that machines and equipment are available for use and consistently maintained in an optimal, safe and clean condition.
KEY REQUIREMENT SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION
Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field.
Minimum of 4 years hands-on experience in machining (milling, turning, fitting), mechanical machine repair and maintenance
Experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment is highly preferred.
Strong understanding of general maintenance procedures and techniques.
Practical knowledge of machine tools and workshop practices.
Ability to troubleshoot and solve mechanical problems efficiently.
Good attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Carry out scheduled preventive maintenance on mechanical equipment such as, oil extraction machines, pasteurizers, pneumatic machines in packaging, pallet, jacks, pumps, gearboxes, conveyors, mixers, compressors, mills, valves, and rotating equipment etc.
- Inspect and replace bearings, seals, belts, chains, couplings, shafts, and lubrication systems.
- Perform alignment, lubrication, tightening, and condition monitoring tasks.
- Record maintenance activities accurately in maintenance logs and checklists.
- Diagnose mechanical faults and failures promptly.
- Repair or replace defective mechanical components to restore equipment to service.
- Identify root causes of failures and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
- Support emergency breakdown response to minimize production downtime.
- Assist in installation, assembly, and commissioning of new machinery and mechanical systems.
- Interpret mechanical drawings, manuals, and specifications.
- Able to use welding machine, angle grinders, drills to carryout repairs
- Ensure installations meet safety, quality, and operational standards.
- Follow plant safety procedures.
- Ensure all mechanical work complies with safety and quality standards.
- Identify and report unsafe conditions, leaks, abnormal noise, vibration, or overheating.
- Perform basic welding using mild steel rods, stainless steel rod, cast iron rods, cutting rods.
- Maintain good housekeeping in work areas.
- Identify and request required spare parts and materials.
- Use tools and equipment correctly and maintain them in good condition.
- Support proper storage and handling of mechanical spares.
- Prepare daily maintenance reports and job cards.
- Record faults, repairs, parts used, and recommendations for follow-up actions.
- Support maintenance audits and inspections when required.
- Work closely with electrical/instrumentation technicians boiler technicians and production team.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and equipment reliability programs.
- Assist supervisors with technical input and improvement suggestions
- Strong understanding of general maintenance procedures and techniques.
