MEDICAL LABORATORY TECHNICIAN

Duty Station: St Raphael Archangel Health Center Emmaus

Job Purpose

The Medical Laboratory Technician will perform laboratory investigations accurately and efficiently to support the diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of patients while maintaining high standards of laboratory safety, quality, and confidentiality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive, identify, collect, label, and process patient specimens appropriately.
  • Perform routine laboratory tests in accordance with approved procedures and professional standards.
  • Prepare specimens and reagents for laboratory examinations.
  • Operate, clean, and maintain laboratory equipment appropriately.
  • Record and verify laboratory results accurately.
  • Communicate laboratory results promptly to authorized healthcare professionals.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records and documentation.
  • Observe laboratory safety, infection prevention, and waste management procedures.
  • Ensure proper storage and disposal of specimens and laboratory materials.
  • Monitor laboratory supplies and reagents and report shortages to the supervisor.
  • Participate in quality control and quality assurance activities.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information and laboratory results.
  • Report equipment faults and other laboratory challenges promptly.
  • Work collaboratively with clinicians, nurses, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor or Health Center management.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Relevant academic and professional qualification in Medical Laboratory Sciences/Technology from a recognized institution.
  • Must be registered with the relevant professional regulatory authority.
  • Must possess a valid practicing licence.
  • Relevant laboratory experience will be an added advantage.
  • Good knowledge of laboratory procedures, safety, quality control, and infection prevention.
  • Good communication, organizational, and teamwork skills.
