Job Purpose:
To safely collect, transport, and analyze specimens and blood samples, ensuring accurate diagnostic results and supporting quality patient care in compliance with clinical and safety standards.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Collect, label, and evaluate blood specimens from patients in line with test requirements.
- Develop and maintain a standard laboratory procedures manual.
- Conduct sample testing and analysis in hematology, immunology, histopathology, clinical chemistry, and microbiology.
- Calibrate, maintain, and operate laboratory instruments according to established protocols and schedules.
- Strictly follow safety and infection prevention protocols in all procedures.
- Maintain complete and accurate laboratory records in compliance with relevant regulations.
- Handle emergency cases in collaboration with the team.
- Enter test results into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
- Verify the validity and integrity of submitted samples.
- Prepare and store specimens appropriately and manage specimen inventory.
Qualification Requirements and Key Competencies
- Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences from a recognized institution (KMLTTB accredited).
- Registration Certificate and valid practicing license issued by the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board (KMLTTB).
- Proficient in clinical laboratory practices and equipment handling.
- Strong interpersonal, communication and customer care skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to high standards of patient care and compliance with healthcare regulations.
- Computer literacy with a certificate in computer applications.
