Shalom Hospital was established in 1992 as a small clinic in Mutituni and has since grown into a fully-fledged private healthcare institution. From its humble beginnings as Dr. Onyango Nursing Home in 1998, the hospital evolved and officially opened its doors as Shalom Hospital Machakos in 2002. Job Purpose
The Medical Officer will provide high-quality medical care to patients, ensuring adherence to clinical standards, protocols, and hospital policies. The role involves clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients while collaborating with consultants, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to deliver holistic patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform, participate in, and assist with both surgical and non-surgical procedures as required.
- Conduct comprehensive admission examinations and document all clinical findings accurately and promptly.
- Provide a 24-hour medical service on a rotational basis, ensuring availability for emergencies and routine patient care.
- Visit patients regularly and attend to their medical needs as requested by nursing staff, patients, or their relatives.
- Ensure adherence to Shalom Hospital’s clinical policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Participate actively in quality improvement programs, including morbidity and mortality meetings and other departmental reviews.
- Deliver emergency medical care to patients, hospital staff, and visitors when necessary.
- Refer and consult with specialists and consultants to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Participate in Continuous Medical Education (CME) sessions, clinical audits, and ongoing training to enhance professional knowledge and practice.
- Promote and uphold the hospital’s risk management program, promptly reporting all clinical incidents, drug errors, and near misses.
- Ensure confidentiality of patient and hospital information in line with institutional policies and ethical standards.
- Contribute to the hospital’s strategic objectives and performance indicators as outlined in departmental and individual balanced scorecards.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) or equivalent from a recognized institution.
- Valid registration and practicing license from the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC).
- Minimum of 2 years of post-internship experience in a busy hospital setup.
- Experience in both inpatient and outpatient care, including emergency and trauma management.
- Proficiency in medical documentation, reporting, and use of hospital information systems.

- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
