Duties and Responsibilities

Reports to the Chief Executive Officer Coast General Teaching & Referral Hospital and will be deployed to perform the following duties: –

  • Evaluate patients’ medical histories and conduct physical examinations.
  • Assess anesthesia risks and develop personalized anesthesia plans.
  • Educate patients and obtain informed consent for anesthesia services.
  • Administer anesthesia (general, regional, or local) as appropriate.
  • Monitor patients’ vital signs, level of consciousness, and physiological status during procedures.
  • Adjust anesthetic levels and medications as needed during surgery.
  • Respond promptly to any intraoperative complications or emergencies.
  • Be part of a team anesthetize and perform cardiac Elective and emergency care
  • Oversee recovery of patients from anesthesia in the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU).
  • Manage post-anesthesia pain, nausea, and other side effects.
  • Ensure patient stability and readiness for discharge from recovery.
  • Provide acute and chronic pain management services when required.
  • Administer epidurals, nerve blocks, or other pain relief interventions.
  • Assist in emergency resuscitation and critical care situations.
  • Provide anesthesia services for trauma or high-risk surgical patients.
  • Critical care in cardiac anesthesia
  • Maintain accurate patient records and anesthesia documentation.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, nurses, and other medical professionals.
  • Participate in hospital committees, training sessions, and quality improvement programs.

Requirements for Appointment

  • Three years’ experience of which should have been in the grade of comparable position in the Public or Private Sector.
  • Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from a recognized institution.
  • Master degree or post graduate degree in Anesthesiology from a recognized institution.
  • Fellowship in cardiac anesthesia/interest in cardiac anesthesia
  • Specialist recognition with Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Board as an Anesthesiologist
  • Demonstrated a high degree of administrative capability coupled with broad professional experience and competence.
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • A sound understanding of patient aftercare and wound management.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Registered with KMPDC
  • A valid license and malpractice insurance
