Duties and Responsibilities
Reports to the Chief Executive Officer Coast General Teaching & Referral Hospital and will be deployed to perform the following duties: –
- Evaluate patients’ medical histories and conduct physical examinations.
- Assess anesthesia risks and develop personalized anesthesia plans.
- Educate patients and obtain informed consent for anesthesia services.
- Administer anesthesia (general, regional, or local) as appropriate.
- Monitor patients’ vital signs, level of consciousness, and physiological status during procedures.
- Adjust anesthetic levels and medications as needed during surgery.
- Respond promptly to any intraoperative complications or emergencies.
- Be part of a team anesthetize and perform pediatric Elective and emergency care
- Oversee recovery of patients from anesthesia in the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU).
- Manage post-anesthesia pain, nausea, and other side effects.
- Ensure patient stability and readiness for discharge from recovery.
- Provide acute and chronic pain management services when required.
- Administer epidurals, nerve blocks, or other pain relief interventions
- Assist in emergency resuscitation and critical care situations.
- Provide anesthesia services for trauma or high-risk surgical patients.
- Critical care in pediatric anesthesia
- Maintain accurate patient records and anesthesia documentation.
- Collaborate with surgeons, nurses, and other medical professionals.
- Participate in hospital committees, training sessions, and quality improvement programs.
Requirements for Appointment
- Three years’ experience of which should have been in the grade of comparable position in the Public or Private Sector.
- Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from a recognized institution.
- Master degree or post graduate degree in Anesthesiology from a recognized institution.
- Fellowship in pediatric anesthesia/interest in pediatric anesthesia
- Specialist recognition with Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Board as an Anesthesiologist
- Demonstrated a high degree of administrative capability coupled with broad professional experience and competence.
- Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
- A sound understanding of patient aftercare and wound management.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Registered with KMPDC
- A valid license and malpractice insurance.
