This is a job posting for a Medical Specialist I – Psychiatrist position with Machakos CPSB.

Responsibilities or duties

• Conduct comprehensive mental state examinations to diagnose complex conditions like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, and anxiety disorders.
• Prescribe and manage psychiatric medications (e.g., antidepressants, antipsychotics, stimulants) to balance brain chemistry.
• Develop and implement tailored treatment plans which may include psychotherapy, medication, or both.
• Order and interpret laboratory tests and brain imaging to rule out physical illnesses (like thyroid issues) that cause psychiatric symptoms.
• Administer advanced treatments like electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), and deep brain stimulation.
• Manage mental health crises and provide care for patients with suicidal ideation or severe mental illness

Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)

• Bachelor of medicine and bachelor of surgery (MBChB) degree from an Institution recognized by Medical Practitioners and Dentist Board.
• Master of Medicine (M.Ed.) in Psychiatry
• Certificate of Registration by the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board
• Certificate of Recognition from Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC)
• Valid practicing license from Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board
• SLDP lasting not less than six (6) weeks from a recognized institution
• Certificate in Computer application skills from a recognized institution

Experience needed

• At least nine (9) years of working experience
