The Motor Assessor is responsible for accurately assessing the extent of damage to motor vehicles for insurance claims purposes. This role involves conducting thorough evaluations of vehicle condition post-incident, determining the cause of loss, estimating repair costs, and ensuring fair and accurate loss adjustments for claims.

Key Responsibilities / Duties

  • Conduct on-site inspections of damaged vehicles to assess the extent of loss and verify reported damages.
  • Determine the cause of damage and investigate circumstances surrounding insurance claims.
  • Utilize industry-standard assessment methods, tools, and databases to accurately estimate repair costs and total loss values.
  • Analyze repair quotations, invoices, and market data to ensure accuracy and fairness in loss adjustments.
  • Consider factors such as depreciation, pre-accident condition, and salvage value in determining claim settlements.
  • Evaluate the mechanical, structural, and cosmetic aspects of damaged vehicles to ascertain repair feasibility and cost-effectiveness.
  • Prepare detailed and accurate assessment reports outlining the findings, repair methodologies, and final loss adjustment conclusions.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and organizational guidelines in all assessment reports.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, including insurance companies, workshops, policyholders, and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Provide clear explanations of assessment results, supporting evidence, and recommendations related to claims.
  • Address any inquiries, concerns, or disputes related to motor vehicle assessments promptly and professionally.
  • Stay abreast of developments in the automotive industry, including new technologies, repair methods, and claims adjustment practices.
  • Participate in training programs, workshops, and professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and contribute to the refinement of claims assessment practices within the organization.

Job Competencies and Qualifications ( Experience, Education ,Attributes and Skills).

  • Bachelor's degree or diploma in automotive engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field.
  • Certificate in Proficiency in Insurance.
  • MAAK (Motor Assessors Association of Kenya) membership is an added advantage.
  • At least 2+ years’ experience in motor vehicle assessment and loss adjustment.
  • Strong knowledge of automotive systems, components, repair processes, and claims procedures.
  • Proficiency in using assessment tools, software, and databases for claims appraisal purposes.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
