Responsibilities or duties
She/he will provide individualized nursing care to patients as per Nursing Council of Kenya guidelines. In addition to the basic nursing duties, she/he will also carry out the following duties and responsibilities:
- Carry out evaluation of psychological and mental health needs of patients, elaborate a nursing diagnosis and establish individual case management plan
- Develop nursing care plans for patients, provide nursing care as per the Nursing council of Kenya guidelines and help patients be as independent as possible
- Administer and monitor prescribed treatment regimens as per patient’s condition in liaison with the medical officers and consultant psychiatrists. Observe and report behavioural changes
- Work with patients’ families to help improve the patient’s abilities for self-care & help the caregivers deal with family member’s mental illness
- Record all care information concisely, accurately and completely, in a timely manner, in the appropriate format and on the appropriate forms
- Provide orientation to other members of staff
- Assist and train staff members and resourceful people whenever necessary in order to enhance the scope of Mental Health activities
- Participate in developing community networks to support mental health patients
- Supervise mental health assistants and ensure patient’s records are kept well and ensure timely weekly and monthly reports are compiled.
- Prepare and maintain an inventory of all medical equipment, pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical materials and supplies
- Update medical calendars and schedule clinical meetings
- Perform other position-related duties as assigned from time-to-time
Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)
Well organized and methodical approach to workable to multi-task
Appreciation of critical timescales and the impact of tardiness on customer perception
Credibility both internally and externally – with colleagues, partners and customers
Energy, drive and ambition to achieve objectives and set targets
Excellent communication skills at all levels of the institution
Mature, credible, highly professional, and comfortable in dealing with psychiatric patients
Experience needed
At least 2 years’ experience as a Nurse, preferably in a mental health and substance use treatment institution
Extensive experience in all aspects of Customer Relationship Management

Qualifications
- Diploma in Nursing (Graduate degree level preferred)
- Additional Training and certification in Nursing is an advantage
- Strong written, verbal and communication skills – Strong interpersonal skills and ability to team with colleagues for the betterment of the institution
- Adaptability, flexibility, and the ability to do quality work under minimal supervision
- Able to manage demands of a growing specialized medical rehabilitation centre
Measures of Success
- Excellent execution of assigned tasks with minimal supervision
- Excellent Daily, Weekly, Quarterly achievement of objectives as agreed with the Clinical Director
