Verst Carbon is a carbon markets technology provider and project developer. We exist to scale Africa’s participation in carbon markets for the improvement of lives and livelihoods on the continent.
Verst Carbon Limited is recruiting short-term consultants and field personnel for a nature-based project in Kenya. These are part-time, assignment-based engagements, with roles expected to commence at various points between September and December 2026
Role Overview
The Ocean-Data Officer is responsible for the collection, processing, and management of biophysical and chemical data specific to marine and aquatic environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Water Quality Monitoring: Deploy and manage sensors (e.g., CTD, turbidity, pH, dissolved oxygen) to collect baseline water quality parameters.
- Data Logging: Retrieve and process data from underwater acoustic devices, current meters, and autonomous sensors.
- Sample Management: Oversee the chain-of-custody for water and sediment samples collected during marine expeditions.
- Database Entry: Perform systematic entry and validation of oceanographic data into the project database, ensuring alignment with terrestrial carbon datasets.
- Technical Support: Assist the Marine Site Lead in calibrating instruments and troubleshooting equipment failures in remote coastal locations.
- Quality Control: Run automated scripts to flag and correct erroneous data points caused by biofouling or sensor drift.
