Pearl Hospital is located in Nyahururu town, Laikipia County and was established in 2018 as Pearl Imaging with the sole purpose of providing diagnostic and interventional radiology services of the highest quality. Within the first year of operation, our clients demanded a wider range of specialized medical services under one roof. We listened. 

Overall Job Function:

  • To assist the Medical Oncologist in management of cancer patients. The Oncology Nurse will strengthen the delivery of high standard of Oncology care to patients at Pearl Cancer Center. The Oncology Nurse will report directly to the Medical Oncologist

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assessing, planning and implementation of nursing care to cancer patients according to the nursing process framework
  • Participate in screening activities to assist in early diagnosis of cancer
  • Offering Counselling and Psychological care to help patients navigate through the treatment journey
  • Administration of prescribed Chemotherapy according to set-out policies and existing guidlines
  • Provide information on potential side effects of Chemotherapy before administration to ensure that the patientis prepared for the treatment
  • Mnitor the progress of patients on Chemotherapy and identify any side effects
  • Ensure smooth running of the oncology unit in collaborating with the finance insurance team to facilitate insurance approvals before management
  • Champion for proper handling of cytotoxic Chemotherapy drugs, and proper waste segragation
  • Offer palliative and hospice srvices to improve quality of life of patients and relatives
  • Maintaining health records of cancer patients
  • Provide preventive and promotive health education to our cancer patients and relatives
  • Participate in MDT meetings to come up with management plans for cancer patients
  • Participate in the continued professional development by self-study
  • Write daily, weekly, and monthly reports about the Cancer unit
  • Participate in the promotion and growth of oncology services through Community outreach, patient education, and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor

Minimum Qualifications

  • Diploma in Nursing or BSc. Nursing
  • Higher National Diploma in Oncology Nursing
  • Must be registered by the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK)
  • Valid professional practice license
  • Minimum 2 years working experience in a bus oncology centre
  • Trained in BLS/ACLS
  • Proficiency in MS Office packages for report writing and presentation
  • Excellent interpersonal skills: ability to work well with others and to develop and maintain relationships
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in both English and Swahili
