Background

Rosslyn Academy is an established and vibrant Christian international school that serves over 650 students from the missionary, diplomatic and business communities.

Nature & Scope

We are seeking a caring, flexible, and experienced French- and English-speaking educator to provide one-to-one support for an elementary-aged student. This temporary position is designed to help the student successfully adjust to an English-speaking school environment while supporting academic progress, communication, social-emotional development, and day-to-day school routines. The ideal candidate will be a patient and encouraging educator who can work closely with the student, classroom teachers, support staff, and family to help create a successful transition and increase independence at school.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized one-to-one support throughout the school day.
  • Assist the student in understanding classroom instruction, expectations, assignments, and routines.
  • Provide French-English translation and interpretation when needed to support communication and understanding.
  • Help the student develop English language skills in an encouraging and age-appropriate manner.
  • Reinforce classroom learning and provide additional explanation or practice when necessary.
  • Support the student's adjustment to a new school, classroom, language, and cultural environment.
  • Assist with organization, transitions between classes or activities, and completion of assigned work.
  • Help the student develop confidence in communicating with teachers and peers.
  • Encourage positive peer relationships and participation in classroom and school activities.
  • Work collaboratively with classroom teachers to adapt or clarify learning activities when appropriate.
  • Communicate observations, progress, and areas of concern with the appropriate teachers and school staff.
  • Gradually encourage greater independence as the student's confidence and English-language abilities develop.
  • Maintain confidentiality and follow all school child-safeguarding policies and procedures.

Qualifications and Skills

The successful candidate should:

  • Be fluent in both French and English, with strong verbal communication skills in both languages.
  • Have experience working with elementary-aged children.
  • Have teaching, tutoring, learning-support, EAL/ESL, or similar educational experience.
  • Demonstrate patience, compassion, flexibility, and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Be able to explain academic concepts in developmentally appropriate ways.
  • Understand that translation should support the student's transition while also encouraging increasing use of English.
  • Be comfortable collaborating with classroom teachers and other members of a student-support team.
  • Be dependable, organized, professional, and responsive to student needs.

Preferred: A teaching qualification, education degree, EAL/ESL experience, learning-support experience, or previous experience supporting multilingual students in an international school setting.

Contract

This is a temporary position beginning as soon as possible and continuing through December 2026. There is a possibility of extending the position beyond December, depending on the student's needs and the success of the arrangement.
