Job Summary
Provide on-site geological support and supervision during drilling, coring, logging, and well operations, ensuring accurate formation evaluation, real-time lithological interpretation, and effective sample management. Deliver timely geological inputs to support safe and efficient well construction, reservoir characterization, and accurate subsurface data capture.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide company representation and wellsite geological supervision during drilling, coring, sampling, and logging operations, acting as the primary technical representative for geological activities on site.
- Perform real-time lithological and stratigraphic interpretation of cuttings, cores, and LWD/wireline logs to identify formation tops, reservoir targets, fluid contacts, and hydrocarbon shows.
- Advise drilling and logging teams on sampling strategies, coring intervals, logging programs, logging runs, and mitigation of hole condition challenges such as washouts and gas shows.
- Collect, label, preserve, track, and manage core, sidewall, and mud samples, ensuring chain of custody, quality control, and timely transfer to laboratories.
- Record, validate, and quality-control geological observations, mud log data, gas shows, and wellsite measurements, and prepare accurate wellsite geological reports, pick lists, and handover notes.
- Interface with petrophysics, reservoir, geophysics, and drilling teams to integrate core and log data, calibrate interpretations, and update subsurface geological models.
- Maintain data quality and metadata completeness for all geological datasets, ensuring timely submission to corporate subsurface data management systems.
- Provide geological input to operational decisions including drill/hold/casing points, landing zone recommendations, well trajectory adjustments, and coring or sidewall sampling decisions based on real-time observations.
- Participate in pre-job planning, HAZID/HAZOP studies, and pre-spud meetings by identifying geological hazards and recommending appropriate mitigation measures.
- Ensure compliance with HSE standards and permit-to-work requirements during geological operations, including safe handling of samples and logging tools, and conduct toolbox talks where required.
- Train and mentor junior field geology personnel and provide guidance to rig crews on sampling techniques, geological recognition, and reporting standards.
- Capture lessons learned and contribute to post-job geological summaries, formation evaluation reports, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
- Degree in Geology, Earth Sciences, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience in wellsite or operations geology, with prior field experience in drilling, coring, and logging operations highly desirable.
