Ophthalmology Clinical Officer

Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Ophthalmology Clinical Officer to join our eye care team. In this role, he/she will be responsible for diagnosing and managing eye conditions, conducting vision screenings, treating ocular emergencies, performing minor ophthalmic procedures, and improving the overall eye health of our patients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive eye examinations, visual acuity tests, and diagnostic evaluations.
  • Diagnose and manage common eye diseases, infections, refractive errors, and ocular trauma.
  • Perform minor surgical and outpatient ophthalmic procedures (e.g., removal of foreign bodies, chalazion excision, eyelid laceration repairs).
  • Administer emergency eye care and manage ocular triage effectively.
  • Prescribe appropriate ophthalmic medications, optical aids, and corrective lenses.
  • Refer complex surgical cases and specialized conditions to senior Ophthalmologists.
  • Educate patients and community groups on eye hygiene, blindness prevention, and proper ocular care

Key Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education: Diploma or Degree in Clinical Medicine & Surgery, with a Higher National Diploma (HND) or Specialization in Ophthalmology / Cataract Surgery.
  • Licensing: Active registration and valid practicing license from the Clinical Officers Council / Medical Board.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2–3 years of practical clinical experience in an eye clinic, ophthalmic unit, or hospital setting.
  • Skills: Excellent diagnostic accuracy, manual dexterity for minor procedures, empathy, and strong patient communication skills.
