The Optical Technology Tutor will deliver specialized training in optometry and optical technology, ensuring alignment with the TVET CDACC curriculum. The ideal candidate will possess clinical optometry experience, strong pedagogical skills, and a commitment to educating future optical technology professionals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver theoretical and practical training in optical technology topics (e.g., ocular anatomy, refraction, lens fabrication, low vision aids, contact lens fitting).
  • Develop lesson plans, teaching materials, and assessments tailored to the TVET CDACC curriculum.
  • Supervise students during clinical practice, optical lab sessions, and industry attachments.
  • Evaluate student performance through examinations, practical assessments, and clinical evaluations.
  • Mentor students in academic excellence, professional ethics, and patient care standards.
  • Maintain optical equipment and ensure a safe, hygienic, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Collaborate with industry partners to ensure curriculum relevance and student placement opportunities.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Degree or Higher Diploma in Optometry, Optical Technology, or a related field.
  • Registration with the Optometrists Association of Kenya (OAK) or relevant professional body.
  • Minimum of 2 years of teaching/training experience (TVET or clinical training preferred).
  • Proven ability to teach the TVET CDACC curriculum effectively.
  • Registration with TVETA and KSTVET Certification (Pedagogy) is an added advantage.
  • Clinical experience in optometry practice, optical dispensing, or ophthalmology support is required.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and mentorship skills.
