Role Overview

AIC Litein Hospital, a faith-based level 5 teaching and referral hospital, is seeking a qualified Optometrist to provide specialized optometric care, as well as emotional and educational support to patients and their families within our growing eye care unit.

Key Responsibilities

Formulate accurate prescriptions for corrective eyeglasses, contact lenses, and low-vision aids based on patient clinical needs.

Perform detailed ocular examinations to evaluate vision health, diagnose refractive errors, and identify signs of systemic diseases manifesting in the eyes (e.g., diabetes, hypertension).

Utilize advanced diagnostic tools like OCT, biometry, b-scan, and visual field analysers, smoothly co-managing or referring complex cases to Ophthalmic Clinical Officers and Ophthalmologists.

Work closely with the hospital’s optical shop technicians to ensure precision in lens fitting, frame selection, and dispensing of specialized optical products.

Participate actively in hospital-sponsored eye screening camps and school health initiatives aimed at tackling preventable vision loss in the region.

Educate patients on vision hygiene, contact lens safety, and preventive eye habits.

Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in Optometry or a recognized Diploma in Optometry from an institution approved by the Ministry of Health.

Must be registered with the Optometrists Association of Kenya (OAK).

Possess a valid, current annual practicing license.

High proficiency in handling modern diagnostic tools, performing subjective/objective refraction, and prescribing low-vision devices.

Excellent interpersonal communication, high integrity, patience, and full alignment with the Christian values and ethical framework of our hospital.
