The mandate of the Board is contained in section 59 of the County Government Acts 2012. These include establishing and abolishing offices in the County Public Service, appointing persons who hold and act in offices of the Public service among others. 

Qualifications or requirements

  • Diploma in orthopedic plaster technology or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution
  • Registered by Kenya Health Professional Oversight Authority and have a valid practicing license
  • Certificate in Computer Application skills from a recognized institution

Responsibilities or duties

  • Assisting physicians in manipulating and treating fractures and dislocations.
  • Setting up, adjusting, and maintaining both skeletal and skin traction configurations.
  • Fixing and removing casts (using Plaster of Paris or synthetic materials), splints, bandages, and external fixators.
  • Cleaning and dressing simple wounds associated with trauma and removing sutures or staples post-surgery.
  • Interpreting radiological images (such as X-rays) for orthopaedic and trauma cases to determine appropriate supportive care.
  • Managing conditions like Congenital orthopedic conditions
  • Assessing patient needs, categorizing musculoskeletal conditions, and referring to specialists when necessary.
  • Monitoring patients during ward rounds and outpatient clinics to ensure proper healing and alignment.
  • Educating patients and their families on proper cast care, wound management, and recognizing signs of complications.
  • Fitting and instructing patients on the use of crutches, braces, walkers, and other mobility aids.
  • Providing emotional support and counseling clients regarding their orthopaedic trauma and long-term recovery.
  • Ordering and maintaining records of orthopaedic supplies, casts, and soft goods.
  • Accurately documenting patient trauma cases, treatment plans, and progress notes.
  • Cleaning, sterilizing, and maintaining orthopaedic tools and equipment in the casts/soft goods room
