Basic Job Summary

The job holder is responsible for the achievement of the assigned Units’ business strategy through the execution of people and culture interventions, which include recruitment, training and development, reward management, and HR policies and procedures.

Duties & Responsibilities

Strategic Business Advisory and Change Management

  • Develop business insights to drive change in people management practices in the respective business units.
  • Provides guidance and input to business units on P&C-related needs, such as development of departmental people strategies, restructures, workforce planning, succession planning, amongst many others.
  • Overall, responsible for the provision of all the P&C interventions in each of the departments assigned to them. This cuts across all the P&C processes guided by the P&C SLA, Policy Manual, Procedure Manual, Process Maps, and other guidelines as shared by the P&C Compliance Office.
  • Partner with the respective units in the execution of the University’s people management strategies.
  • Drive projects identified as priorities from the P&C strategy to improve the performance of the University.

Employee Relations, Support & Advisory

  • Provide guidance and counsel to the Business Units on employee relations issues to enhance team performance, build morale, increase productivity, and enhance the SU culture.
  • Be an advocate and champion of employees’ welfare.
  • Provides first-line advisory to all employees and line managers while ensuring accurate and consistent delivery of People and Culture services.

Administration

  • Responsible for signing P&C related documents, as per the P&C signing Matrix.
  • Responsible for all people management matters pertaining to his/her respective team.
  • Provides the requisite people-related solutions, guidance, and interventions for the achievement of the University’s goals and mission and the Culture of the University in the respective departments.
  • Generate quality and timely reports for the consumption of the respective HODs, P&C and any other user.
  • Contributes to the Service to Society pillar of the University through an annual designated responsibility.

Job Specifications

Academic Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in social sciences, Human Resources, or any other related field.

Professional Qualifications / Membership to professional bodies

  • Professional qualification in HR and be a member of IHRM.

Work Experience Required

  • At least 6 years’ experience in implementing change in organizations with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
  • Sound understanding of the Kenyan Labour Laws and related policy framework.

  • Provides guidance and input to business units on P&C-related needs, such as development of departmental people strategies, restructures, workforce planning, succession planning, amongst many others.
