Mount Kenya University (MKU) is a chartered University committed to a broad-based, holistic and inclusive system of education. The University is a member of the Inter-University Council of East Africa as well as the Association of Commonwealth Universities. MKU invites applications from suitably qualified, visionary, competent, dynamic and experienced professionals with impeccable track record to fill the following Academic positions on a Part-time basis under the following category; Associate Faculty.

Professionals only interested in supervision of postgraduate students and sabbatical are also encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities or duties

You will be responsible for: -

• Adherence to the teaching requirements as per the curriculum.
• Administration of Continuous Assessments Tests.
• Examination Setting, Administration & Marking.
• Deliver high-quality learning experiences for undergraduate and graduate students through the preparation of teaching materials, the preparation of class methodology or activities, and the actual delivery of the curriculum in class.
• Keep abreast of developments within the academic discipline or professional practice of the Subject area, and share this knowledge to shape curriculum content, design, and delivery.
• Ensure that content, methods of delivery and learning materials meet the defined learning objectives and that they are regularly reviewed for opportunities for improvement.
• Ensure timely student assessment through the preparation, moderation, administration and marking of examinations.
• Guide students at undergraduate and graduate level in identifying research topics, concept development, proposal development and supervision.
• Ensure that accurate student records, including registers, reports, student assessment and achievement are updated in the Academic Management System.
• Identify sources of funding through grant writing to advance research portfolio at the school.
• Engage in publishing papers as well as attending, participating, presenting papers in workshops, conferences and professional seminars.
• Collaborate with other researchers internally, nationally and internationally, for purposes of establishing research linkages and contribute to attainment of the school’s research objectives.
• Responsible for administrative duties when called for including at not limited to leadership of academic programmes, membership of different committees, or being part of the management of the school.

Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)

To qualify for appointment a candidate must have the following:

An earned PhD degree qualification in the relevant area from a recognized/accredited university;

At least three (3) years teaching and research experience in a university.

Relevant Work experience in Industry will be an added advantage

Be registered by the relevant Professional Body (where applicable).

OR

A Master’s degree qualification in the relevant area of specialization from recognized/accredited university

At least three years teaching and research experience at a university,

Relevant Work experience in Industry will be an added advantage

Be registered for a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree qualification;

Be registered by the relevant Professional Body (where applicable).

This final call for applications applies only to Part-Time Associate Faculty who were allocated units and/or workload but did not submit an application during the initial call issued in April 2025.

Affected Associate Faculty are required to submit their applications through the MKU Recruitment Portal, clearly indicating their area of specialization (School and Department), academic and professional qualifications, relevant work experience, mode of availability (physical or e-Learning), and preferred MKU Campus or ODeL Centre.

Each application must be accompanied by a detailed Curriculum Vitae, copies of relevant academic and professional certificates, a National Identity Card or passport, and any other relevant supporting documents. The University shall verify the authenticity of all submitted academic and professional certificates.

Associate Faculty who applied during the initial call for applications in April 2025 are not required to re-apply.

Terms of Engagement

Successful candidates will be engaged on contractual basis as Associate Faculty (part-time). These positions will attract a competitive remuneration package.

Successful candidates will be retained in the Mount Kenya University database for a period of 6 years subject to satisfactory performance of allocated duties and responsibilities.
