Job Purpose
To provide high-quality clinical instruction, supervision, and mentorship to nursing students in perioperative settings, ensuring the integration of theory into practice, adherence to patient safety standards, and development of competent, ethical, and professional perioperative nurses in support of the Institute’s training objectives.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide clinical instruction and supervision to nursing students during perioperative nursing practice placements in approved clinical areas.
- Facilitate the translation of theoretical knowledge into practical perioperative nursing skills in accordance with approved curricula and competency frameworks.
- Supervise, guide, and mentor students to ensure achievement of required clinical competencies and learning outcomes as prescribed by the Nursing Council of Kenya.
- Assess and evaluate students’ clinical performance using approved assessment tools, accurately document evaluations, and provide timely feedback.
- Ensure clinical teaching complies with established patient safety standards, ethical guidelines, infection prevention protocols, and perioperative best practices.
- Participate in the development, review, and implementation of clinical teaching plans, logbooks, assessment tools, and learning resources in accordance with KNQA standards.
- Monitor student attendance, clinical exposure, and performance, and identify learning gaps requiring remedial support.
- Collaborate with tutors, faculty members, and clinical site staff to ensure coordinated delivery of training programs.
- Maintain effective communication with internal and external stakeholders to support quality clinical learning experiences.
- Uphold professional conduct, integrity, and regulatory compliance in all instructional activities.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BScN) or its equivalent, in an institution recognized by the Nursing Council of Kenya.
- Higher National Diploma in Perioperative Nursing from an institution recognized by the Nursing Council of Kenya.
- A Master's degree in Nursing will be an added advantage.
- At least three (3) years relevant work experience.
- Registration with the Nursing Council of Kenya.
- Valid practice license from the Nursing Council of Kenya
- Proficiency in computer applications.
- Compliance with Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution of Kenya.
