Scope:

The Partner, Health is a senior dealmaker, accountable for originating, structuring, and closing the Fund’s healthcare manufacturing investments. The role is measured first and foremost on high-quality transactions: building a proprietary pipeline across the continent, designing equity and quasi-equity solutions suited to African healthcare SME manufacturers, and taking board seats post-close. The Partner works closely with 500 Global’s regional and impact investment partners on investment priorities, transaction execution and portfolio oversight. The Partner leads diligence of assets, assembling and directing the right specialist advisors and 500 Global Senior Advisors for each deal. After closing, the Partner remains the investment lead and drives a structured handover of operational priorities to the Operating Partner.

Essential Functions:

  • Lead origination across priority African markets, building a proprietary pipeline of pharmaceutical, diagnostics, medical device/consumables and vaccine manufacturers through founders, industry networks, DFIs, co-investors, banks and advisors.
  • Lead transactions end-to-end: investment thesis, valuation, term sheet, structuring, negotiation, documentation and closing.
  • Design and negotiate equity and quasi-equity structures suited to African SMEs, including downside protection, FX considerations and exit mechanics.
  • Prepare and present investment memoranda and recommendations.
  • Own the diligence process, coordinating commercial, financial, legal and technical workstreams. Draw on specialist advisors for manufacturing-specific diligence, including regulatory status (WHO prequalification, national registration, GMP), capacity utilization, input sourcing, cost of goods versus procurement reference prices, and technology-transfer terms.
  • Take board seats at portfolio companies; partner with the Operating Partner and relevant regional and impact investment partners on the value creation plan, ongoing performance and exit readiness, and lead exit processes.
  • Build and maintain relationships with DFIs, co-investors, LPs, regulators and industry bodies; support fundraising, LP reporting and DFI co-investment.
  • Contribute to portfolio construction, pipeline reporting and impact/ESG frameworks across the Fund.
  • Represent 500 Global in the African health ecosystem and with 500 Global's global investment team.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 15 years of investing experience (private equity, growth equity or mezzanine) with a substantial focus on Africa.
  • Led several health manufacturing transactions (ideally in Africa), with verifiable deal attribution (named deal lead and/or board seat at the portfolio company, not firm-level exposure only).
  • Direct deal experience in healthcare manufacturing: pharmaceuticals, diagnostics, medical devices, consumables, or vaccines.
  • Demonstrated experience structuring and negotiating SME equity and/or quasi-equity investments, from origination through closing.
  • Experience across the full investment cycle, including portfolio board work and at least one exit or realization.
  • Based in Africa with an established on-the-ground network among manufacturers, co-investors, DFIs, and advisors; willing to travel extensively across the continent.
  • Strong financial modeling, valuation, and investment-memo skills; able to present and defend recommendations to an Investment Committee.
  • Professional fluency in English.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience designing and implementing innovative financing instruments.
  • Working knowledge of healthcare-manufacturing regulatory pathways (WHO prequalification, GMP, national medicines registration) and of pooled/government procurement dynamics.
  • Experience co-investing with DFIs and working within DFI investment, ESG and reporting requirements.
  • Prior portfolio board experience.
  • Additional proficiency in French or Arabic a bonus.
  • MBA, CFA, or relevant advanced degree.
