Job Purpose
The Pharmaceutical Technologist is responsible for ensuring accurate dispensing of medications, efficient pharmacy operations, and high-quality patient care. The role involves inventory management, support in procurement planning, and adherence to safe, ethical, and regulatory pharmacy practices.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Accurately receive, prepare, and dispense prescriptions under the supervision of the Chief Pharmacist.
- Provide patients with clear guidance on medication use, potential side effects, and safety precautions.
- Maintain proper organization, labeling, cleanliness, and hygiene within the pharmacy.
- Monitor stock levels, report shortages, and identify expired or near-expiry medications.
- Participate in inventory audits and scheduled stock takes.
- Ensure compliance with dispensing protocols, record-keeping requirements, and regulatory standards.
- Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
- Work day and/or night shifts as allocated.
Qualification Requirements and Key Competencies
- Diploma or Degree in Pharmaceutical Technology, Pharmacy, or a related field.
- Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in a hospital, retail, or clinical pharmacy setting.
- Strong knowledge of pharmaceuticals, dosage forms, and drug safety practices.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and customer service skills.
- Ability to work accurately under pressure and as part of a team.
