Job Purpose:
The Pharmaceutical Technologist will be responsible for preparing, dispensing, and managing pharmaceutical
products, as well as providing patient counselling in line with hospital policies, professional standards, and regulatory
requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Dispense medications and monitor patient health and progress to maximize treatment outcomes.
- Provide expertise on the composition, properties, manufacture, and proper use of drugs.
- Ensure drug purity and strength, preventing harmful interactions.
- Receive and process prescriptions accurately for both inpatients and outpatients.
- Provide accurate drug information to patients, wards, and user departments.
- Prepare, constitute, and label extemporaneous preparations as required.
- Participate in drug stocking, stock-taking, and inventory management.
- Monitor expiry dates of medicines and ensure compliance with the hospital’s short expiry drug policy.
- Participate in chemotherapy dispensing and reconstitution in line with cytotoxic handling policies.
- Assist in planning for medicines and medical materials needed by the pharmacy.
- Support the Pharmacist-in-Charge in medical warehousing and proper storage practices.
- Counsel patients on medication use and adherence.
- Document and file prescription and drug-related information in line with policies.
- Collect, record, and analyze data on drug dispensing and utilization.
- Perform any other duties as may be assigned.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Diploma in Pharmacy or related field from a recognized institution.
- Registration and valid practice license with the Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB).
- Membership with the Pharmaceutical Society of Kenya (PSK) is an added advantage.
- Minimum of 1-year relevant experience in a pharmaceutical setting.
- Proficiency in MS Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to multitask, solve problems, and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated integrity, self-motivation, and ability to work independently.
- A committed Christian with values aligned to Tenwek Hospital’s mission.
