We are seeking a qualified, experienced, and highly motivated Pharmaceutical Technologist to join our Pharmacy Department and support the delivery of efficient pharmaceutical services.
Role Summary
The Pharmaceutical Technologist will be responsible for receiving prescriptions, reviewing medication orders, dispensing medicines safely and accurately, managing pharmaceutical inventory, and supporting quality pharmacy services in accordance with established hospital protocols and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
Pharmaceutical Services
- Receive, review, process, and dispense prescribed medications accurately and safely.
- Ensure all prescriptions comply with established clinical and regulatory standards before dispensing.
- Counsel patients on proper medication use, dosage, storage, and possible side effects where appropriate.
- Promote safe medication practices and quality pharmaceutical care.
Inventory & Stock Management
- Maintain accurate pharmaceutical inventory through effective stock control practices.
- Initiate procurement requests for medications and pharmaceutical supplies.
- Monitor stock levels and maintain appropriate reorder levels.
- Manage expired, obsolete, damaged, and returned medications in accordance with hospital policies.
- Monitor stock movement, stock-outs, breakages, and expiries to ensure uninterrupted availability of medicines.
Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure every medication request is supported by a valid prescription.
- Collaborate with the Pharmacy and Poisons Board on pharmacovigilance activities, including reporting adverse drug reactions.
- Maintain compliance with professional, legal, and regulatory pharmacy standards.
Reporting & Documentation
- Prepare monthly pharmacy reports covering:
- Sales
- Expenses
- Drug breakages
- Expired medications
- Maintain accurate pharmacy records and inventory documentation.
- Support audits and quality assurance activities within the pharmacy.
Continuous Professional Development
- Participate in Continuous Medical Education (CME) programs to remain updated on current pharmaceutical practices.
- Support initiatives aimed at improving pharmacy service delivery and patient safety.
Other Responsibilities
- Work closely with clinicians, nurses, procurement, finance, and stores to ensure efficient pharmaceutical services.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Pharmacy In-charge.
Qualifications
Applicants must possess:
- Diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology from a recognized institution.
- Registration with the Pharmacy and Poisons Board of Kenya (PPB).
- Valid Practising Licence.
- Membership with the Kenya Pharmaceutical Association (KPA) will be an added advantage.
Professional Experience
- Minimum of three (3) years' relevant experience, preferably in a hospital or healthcare facility.
- Experience in inventory management and pharmaceutical dispensing within a busy healthcare environment is highly desirable.
