Responsibilities or duties
Pharmaceutical Care: Dispense prescription and non-prescription medications and provide patient counseling on dosage, side effects, storage and drug therapy.
Supply Chain Management: Handle requisition, receipt, storage, inventory management, distribution and quality control of pharmaceutical products and medical commodities.
Clinical Pharmacy & Pharmacovigilance: Participate in ward rounds, review treatment charts and monitor and report Adverse Drug Reactions (ADRs).
Rational Medicine Use: Promote evidence-based prescribing and cost-effective use of medicines among healthcare providers.
Compounding & Repackaging: Prepare specialized pharmaceutical formulations and repackage bulk medications according to SOPs.
Supervision & Mentorship: Supervise Pharmaceutical Technologists, support staff and interns.
Data Management & Reporting: Maintain accurate records of drug consumption and controlled drugs and prepare routine pharmacy reports.
Compliance: Ensure adherence to national pharmacy laws, Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB) guidelines and public health regulations.
Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)
Requirements for Appointment
- Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm) degree from an institution recognized by the Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB).
- Certificate of successful completion of a one-year professional internship from a recognized institution.
- Certificate of Registration as a Pharmacist from the Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB).
- Valid Annual Practicing License from the Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB).
- Proficiency in computer applications and hospital management systems.
- Must meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010.
- Must provide clearances from EACC, DCI, KRA, HELB and CRB.
Core Competencies and Personal Attributes
- Strong knowledge of pharmacology, therapeutics and pharmaceutical supply chain management.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and patient counseling skills.
- High level of integrity, ethics and attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
