Job Purpose

To collect, label, process, and transport blood and other laboratory specimens accurately while ensuring patient safety, comfort, and compliance with infection prevention and quality standards.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collect blood and other specimens using approved phlebotomy techniques.
  • Correctly label, document, and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis.
  • Verify patient identity before specimen collection.
  • Maintain infection prevention, biohazard, and safety standards at all times.
  • Reassure patients and explain specimen collection procedures.
  • Maintain phlebotomy equipment and ensure adequate supplies are available.
  • Keep accurate specimen collection records.
  • Support laboratory personnel with specimen handling and related duties.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by management.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Certificate or Diploma in Phlebotomy, Medical Laboratory Science, or a related healthcare field.
  • Relevant professional certification where applicable.
  • Previous experience in phlebotomy or laboratory services is an added advantage.

Skills and Competencies

  • Excellent venipuncture and specimen collection skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of infection prevention and laboratory safety procedures.
  • Compassion and professionalism.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team.
