Role Summary

Improves laboratory turnaround time (TAT) and specimen quality during night shift; enhances patient/customer satisfaction by reducing wait times for results (OP, Casualty, IP and ICU); supports compliance with ISO 15189:2022 pre-analytical quality requirements; and provides a cost-effective staffing model compared to routinely rostering Laboratory Technologists on night shift.

Requirements

  • Positively identify patients and perform venipuncture/specimen collection across OP, Casualty, IP and ICU.
  • Accurately label, handle, store and transport specimens per SOPs; prioritize urgent/STAT samples.
  • Identify and report unsuitable specimens; coordinate timely recollection to minimize pre-analytical errors.
  • Provide compassionate, patient-centered care, including for children, elderly, critically ill and difficult-to-bleed patients.
  • Comply with infection prevention, PPE, aseptic technique and sharps safety requirements.
  • Monitor phlebotomy supplies/equipment and report shortages or issues promptly. Support quality improvement activities, audits, CMEs and competency assessments as required.
