Key Duties and Responsibilities

Teaching and Learning

  • Prepare schemes of work, lesson plans, and teaching resources.
  • Deliver lessons in accordance with the approved curriculum and learning objectives.
  • Apply learner-centered teaching methodologies to enhance participation and understanding.
  • Integrate ICT and digital learning tools into classroom activities where applicable.
  • Ensure timely syllabus coverage and achievement of learning outcomes.
  • Support learners with diverse educational needs through differentiated instruction.

Assessment and Evaluation

  • Conduct continuous assessments and maintain accurate learner records.
  • Prepare, administer, and mark assignments, projects, tests, and examinations.
  • Monitor learner progress and provide timely feedback.
  • Prepare and submit learner progress reports within the required timelines.
  • Maintain learner portfolios and assessment documentation.

Learner Management and Welfare

  • Maintain discipline and promote positive behavior among learners.
  • Monitor learner attendance and follow up on absenteeism and lateness.
  • Ensure learner safety, health, and well-being while in school.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to support learners' personal development.
  • Identify learners requiring additional academic or psychosocial support and make referrals where necessary.

Classroom Management

  • Create and maintain a conducive learning environment.
  • Manage classroom resources and ensure proper use of teaching and learning materials.
  • Maintain cleanliness, order, and safety within the classroom.

Co-curricular Activities

  • Participate in sports, clubs, music, drama, and other extracurricular activities.
  • Identify and nurture learners' talents and abilities.
  • Support school events, educational trips, and community activities.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Attend staff meetings, workshops, and professional development programs.
  • Maintain accurate academic and administrative records.
  • Prepare reports and documentation as required by school management.
  • Participate in curriculum implementation and school improvement initiatives.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Communicate learner progress and concerns to parents and guardians.
  • Participate in parent-teacher meetings and school community activities.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and other stakeholders to support learner success.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Primary Education from a recognized institution.
  • Registration with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
  • Knowledge and understanding of Competency-Based Education (CBE).
  • Teaching experience in a primary school environment is an added advantage.
  • Proficiency in ICT integration in teaching and learning.
