Background

The Commission for University Education (CUE) established by the Universities Act Cap 210 Laws of Kenya is a state corporation mandated to assure quality of university education, training and research in Kenya. A beacon of excellence in the Kenyan university education landscape, the Commission is steadfastly upholding its mandate to promote, advance, and assure quality university education. To achieve these objectives CUE seeks to recruit dynamic, result-oriented, competent and self-driven individuals for the position listed below:

Terms of Employment

a) Job Specifications

The duties and responsibilities will entail: -

  • Managing design, development and administration of applications and systems, physical or virtual hardware devices, operating systems, monitoring services and directory services for user administration;
  • Coordinating automation of systems and processes;
  • Monitoring and evaluating performance of ICT systems, and taking corrective action where necessary;
  • Overseeing the development of technical specifications for hardware and software;
  • Managing ICT systems to ensure they comply with regulatory and legal requirements;
  • Monitoring and evaluating performance of staff working under him/her;
  • Mentoring and coaching staff working under him/her;
  • Managing implementations of decisions made in departmental Meetings;
  • Preparing draft annual ICT Work plan and budget;
  • Implementing the ICT strategic plan and work plan;
  • Coordinating deployment of systems including training of users;
  • Implementing contracts and service level agreements for provision of ICT goods and services;
  • Undertaking research on best ICT practices and relevant emerging technologies in order to facilitate adoption for use by the Commission;
  • Drafting procedures and guidelines for efficient and effective use of ICT systems in the Commission; and
  • Designing and coordinating the implementation of corporate ICT projects, including planning, scheduling, managing and progress reporting for new system implementations.

b) Persons Specification

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:

  • At least eight (8) years of relevant work experience, three (3) years of which must have been in a supervisory role;
  • Bachelor’s Degree in: Computer Science/Information Communication Technology/ Business Information Technology or any other relevant qualification from a recognized institution;
  • Master’s degree in computer science/information communication technology/business information technology or any other relevant qualification from a recognized institution;
  • Certification from relevant professional bodies in any of the following bodies CCNP, CDCP, CCNA Cloud, CCNA Industrial/IoT, CCNA, MCSE, MCSA, MCSD, N+, A+ OCA, CISSP, Linux+, Network+, Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP), CISA, CISM, CGEIT or other equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution;
  • Registered by a relevant professional body/ society and in good standing;
  • Management course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution;
  • Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results;
  • Proficiency in computer applications; and
  • Fulfil the requirement of Chapter 6 of the Constitution of Kenya.

  • Communication and reporting skills;
  • Mentoring, coaching and leadership skills;
  • Interpersonal and negotiation skills; and
  • Supervisory skills.
